Bernice Zieba was born in Gloucester, in the south-west of England. She moved to Switzerland at the age of eight and has lived there for 30 years. At the age of 18 she finished her attendance at the Rudolf Steiner Schule, Wetzikon and travelled South-East Asia for five months. At the beginning of her studies for kindergarten teacher, being pregnant with her first child, she then decided to become a full-time mother. In 2007 she completed a Catechist training course. She moved back to the UK with her family in 2016.
She has been playing the violin from the age of nine, was member of various youth orchestras and continues to play in a symphony orchestra today, teaches young beginners the violin and leads a folk group. She finds that music supports her imagination in creative writing, especially when listening to orchestral music. Bernice is married and mother of nine children; some of them are now grown-up.
She is the author of The Anglo-Saxon Village chronicles and a few non-fiction books. Her first young adult fiction novel, The Spire, is about a young girl who mysteriously slips into Victorian age Preston, a town she only knows from the dystopian future.
